Jazz guitarist/composer John Dworkin draws his original style from sources as varied as 60s-soul jazz, Be-Bop, modern instrumental blues, americana, and modern contemporary straight-ahead approaches. Studies at Berklee College of Music and Purchase Conservatory have given him a solid base of knowledge. Playing a weekly gig in Flagstaff w/ mentor Joel DiBartolo (bassist for Doc Severinsen's Tonight Show Band) for two years has given him courage and experience. His mostly original material recording Short Story is available online at cdbaby.com and is played by himself and a quintet of smokin' NYC players. He's been busy playing with many of the best known players in the Capital District at some of the most popular jazz venues in the area. Classics to modern, his sound is warm and inviting. A sure bet. Other projects Dworkin is involved in include his trio Good Form which plays a mix of styles from jazz standards, to burnin' instrumental modern blues covers (a la Ronnie Earl And The Broadcasters...), to soulful american guitar tunes. Also, occasional gigs w/ the excellent jazz/pop vocalist Kylie Hotaling. And hopefully the soon to be realized Keith Pray's Big Soul Ensemble. |
