Valerie Medeiros has graced the stage with her sultry vocals throughout the Capital District and New England, bringing fresh new interpretations of classic American music- Gospel, Blues and Jazz. I've been singing all my life, but started performing in public about ten years ago when on a lark I decided to try out as a background singer for a popular local Blues cover band called Out of the Blues. They hired me on the spot and I had the pleasure of opening for Southside Johnny and Eddie Money. The background singing turned into lead on several songs and I was approached by friends to front two bands of my own, the latest being Sonic Mayhem, a Blues Band. I had a lot of fun, sharing the stage with Richard Johnston, The Nighthawks and Danny Kalb -who was kind enough to say I had a powerful and soulful voice. This means a lot coming from him! Danny Kalb is a blues guitarist and former founder of the 1960's group, Blues Project. He's toured with John Lee Hooker, as well as accompanied folk legends such as Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs, and Judy Collins. Don Wilcock, NE Blues Society President and recipient of the 2008 "Keeping the Blues Alive in Print Journalism" Award from the National Blues Foundation, has named me Siren Sister of the Blues- My influences are the divas- Billy Holiday, Nina Simone, Etta James, Aretha Franklin, Diana Krall and Jane Monheit. I am currently looking for a new project, my favorite genres being Blues and Jazz. I love horns, and would also be very interested in doing a small jazz/standards trio, with pianist, bass/guitar. |
